July RCMP report

File Summary – In July 2022, Mackenzie RCMP responded to 174 files and conducted 3 proactive road checks.

Investigations of Interest:

2.1. On 2022-07-02 RCMP members responded to a report of an assault. Members located the victim at the hospital who was suffered what appeared to be blunt force trauma to the head. Mackenzie RCMP are working with the victim who is unable to confirm the suspect at this time.

2.2. On 2022-07-06 RCMP members responded to a report of a break and enter on McIntyre Cres. Video surveillance negative. Later a suspect was identified but no evidence to proceed with charges at this time. Majority of property recovered.

2.3. On 2022-07-07 a Mackenzie RCMP member was on patrol and completed a proactive check on a vehicle travelling north on Hwy 97. The driver was prohibited from driving and subsequently arrested. The driver was released and is to appear before the courts in August.

2.4. On 2022-07-07 a Mackenzie RCMP member recognized a local prohibited driver on Mackenzie Blvd. Attempts to stop the vehicle it fled. The vehicle was located shortly after with the driver trying to conceal the vehicle in a driveway of someone unknown to the accused. The driver was subsequently arrested for prohibited driving. The driver was released and is to appear before the courts in October.

2.5. On 2022-07-07 RCMP members received a report of third hand information of an assault in progress behind the Recreation Centre. Members located the victim who was well known to police and disclosed he was robbed. Members identified the suspect and located the victim’s items with the suspect. The suspect and victim are known to each other and police believe this to be a targeted attack with no risk to the public. The suspect was released on an Undertaking and is to appear before the courts in October.

2.6. On 2022-07-08 a Mackenzie RCMP member completed a curfew compliance check of a person living in Mackenzie. The person was not home and a breach file was completed. Of note this individual has approximately 4 breach files in the month of July and Mackenzie RCMP are working with adult probation to rectify the on-going issue.

2.7. On 2022-07-09 Mackenzie RCMP members conducted a stop of a vehicle leaving the local pub. Members initialized an impaired investigation. The driver provided a sample of his breath roadside which result sin a warning and 3-day driving suspension.

2.8. On 2022-07-09 Mackenzie RCMP members responded to a report of an assault in progress. Members determined the primary aggressor who had a long history with police. Suspect held for bail hearing which they were released by a Justice on conditions and to appear before the courts in a couple months’ time.

2.9. On 2022-07-09 Mackenzie RCMP members received a report of an insecure premise on the 500 block of Mackenzie Blvd. The investigation determined the building has been vacant of workers for almost 2 years now. It is believed alcohol was stolen. Property reference no longer living in Mackenzie but had the building re-secured.

2.10. On 2022-07-11 Mackenzie RCMP members responded to a theft of a catalytic converter from a hotel in Mackenzie. Video surveillance negative and suspects at this time.

2.11. On 2022-07-13 Mackenzie RCMP members responded to a report of a male with a rifle acting erratically in the Mackenzie walking trails near Morfee Lake. North district Emergency Response Team, police dog services, and the North District Helicopter were called to assist. The male was not located and it has since transitioned into a missing person. RCMP worked with SAR, Fire and Rescue, Town council and other partnerships over the next several days with no results of locating the person. File is still under investigation at this time.

2.12. On 2022-07-15 Mackenzie RCMP members responded to a report of shots fired near the Mackenzie gold course. North district Emergency Response Team, police dog services, and the North District Helicopter were called to assist. Over the next several hours the suspect discharged a firearm multiple times in the vicinity of the police helicopter. The suspect was taken into custody without issues. The suspect was on conditions not to possess firearms and did not possess a firearms licence. The suspect was cooperative with police and was released to appear before the courts in November.

2.13. On 2022-07-15 Mackenzie RCMP members responded to a report of threats and a breach of conditions. Members competed as in depth investigation and arrest a suspect. The suspect appeared before a Justice where he was held in custody for a few days then later released in Prince George with conditions not to attend Mackenzie.

2.14. On 2022-07-16 Mackenzie RCMP members responded a report of an assault. Members completed an investigation and arrested a suspect. The suspect appeared before a Justice and was later released for a future court date in Mackenzie.

2.15. On 2022-07-16 Mackenzie RCMP members responded a report of an assault. Members completed an investigation and arrested a suspect. The suspect was released on an Undertaking to appear before the courts in August.

2.16. On 2022-07-16 Mackenzie RCMP members responded a report of an assault. Members determined it was a consent fight stemming from a civil matter. No charges pursued on file.

2.17. On 2022-07-16 Mackenzie RCMP members responded to a report of a breach stemming from a domestic assault. Members attended the residence in question and located the suspect breaching his police conditions. During the arrest a police officer was assaulted by the victim while trying to take the suspect into custody. The suspect appeared before a Justice and was released for a future court date in Mackenzie.

2.18. On 2022-07-18 a Mackenzie RCMP member attempted to stop a vehicle on Mackenzie Blvd. The vehicle fled and was later located. Suspects fled the scene but were identified. Investigation pending charge for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.

2.19. On 2022-07-21 Mackenzie RCMP responded to a report of theft from a building in the industrial area. Suspect identified by property representative. Search warrant executed at suspects residence with negative results in locating stolen items. Suspect cooperative with police and returned the thousands of dollars’ worth of property. Suspect is not currently facing charges.

2.20. On 2022-07-22 a Mackenzie RCMP member was on patrol and completed a proactive check on a vehicle travelling north on Mackenzie Blvd. The driver was prohibited from driving and subsequently arrested. The driver was released and is to appear before the courts in August.

2.21. On 2022-07-22 Mackenzie RCMP members received a report of an assault with a weapon. Members spoke to the victim who had signs they were assaulted. The victim and all witnesses are very uncooperative with police at this time. No charges due to lack of investigational avenues on file. Assault is believed to be linked to substance abuse.

2.22. On 2022-07-22 Mackenzie RCMP received multiple reports of one male with a long gun and another male with duffle bags in the area of Stuart Dr. Patrols negative fore locating the suspects.

2.23. On 2022-07-22 a RCMP member was on patrol and completed a proactive check on an ATV travelling Stuart Dr. The ATV fled a short distance before a mechanical issue stopped it. The occupants were well known to police. The driver was arrested for flight from police. The drive was issued fines under the motor vehicle act, the ATV was impounded and the driver was released from custody.

2.24. On 2022-07-22 Mackenzie RCMP received a report of a hostage situation. Mackenzie RCMP worked in partnership to confirm a person was taken hostage. During the course of the investigation weapons and controlled substances were located on the suspects. Investigation is still on-going. This was a targeted attack and the RCMP believe there is not risk to the public at this time.

2.25. On 2022-07-24 Mackenzie RCMP responded to a semi trailer off road on Hwy 97. Driver received injuries, but in stable condition and was transported to Prince George by ambulance.

2.26. On 2022-07-25 a report of three vehicle’s gas tanks were punctured, while parked at Conifex Power. No suspects at this time.

2.27. On 2022-07-26 Mackenzie RCMP received a report of two quads and a trailer stolen from a local apartment parking lot. The quads were located due to GPS tracking system a short time later North of Mackenzie on the Parsnip Forest service road. The trailer has not been recovered.

2.28. On 2022-07-27 Members conducting traffic enforcement at Carp Lake Road and Highway 97. Drivers were respectful and cooperative with minor violations reported.

2.29. On 2022-07-29 Mackenzie RCMP were dispatched to a house fire on Omineca Cres. Mackenzie Fire department investigating the fire and believed to be an electrical fire with no evidence of arson.

2.30. On 2022-07-29 Mackenzie RCMP received a call of a vehicle that was broken into and property stolen. The vehicle was not locked at the time.

2.31. On 2022-07-29 a Vehicle was broken into while it was parked on the side of the road near Whiskers Point. When the owner returned the windows were smashed and their property was stolen.

2.32. On 2022-07-31 Mackenzie RCMP are forwarding charges to a male who is on house arrest in Mackenzie. This male was not at home at the time of his check. Charges pending.

2.33. On 2022-07-31 Mackenzie RCMP a non local male was arrested for Prohibited Driving. The vehicle was impounded for seven days. Drugs were located in the vehicle, which were seized and will be destroyed.

2.34. On 2022-07-31 Mackenzie received a report of a break and enter at McLeod Lake General Store. This is an ongoing investigation for the suspect and the vehicle involved.
