Mackenzie Fire Department and RCMP were busy Sunday with two fires in town, one in the evening at a mobile home at Century trailer park, and one earlier in the day with a truck fire on a residential street.
Mackenzie resident Char Jackson shared these photos of the truck fire which occurred on Blackwater Crescent Sunday.
Jackson said, “The fire started on the driver’s side and then spread throughout the cab. [We heard] huge bangs as the air bags blew. The firefighters showed up pretty quickly. It was very icy, but they did great.”
According to Mackenzie RCMP, a male was arrested and charged with one count of arson and mischief over $5000. He was released on bail conditions with a court date set for March.
Update: This case did not proceed. RCMP Sergeant Jayson Davidson told The Buzzette that Crown Counsel did not find that the evidence was enough to link the suspect to the arson and did not approve charges.

Later that evening a second, unrelated fire broke out at a unit in Century trailer park. No one was inside it at the time and no injuries were reported.
